Fishing

Lake Wissota offers some of Wisconsin's most diverse freshwater fishing with excellent opportunities for walleye, musky, northern pike, bass, and abundant panfish like bluegill and crappie. Anglers can enjoy year-round action, from spring walleye runs in shallow rock bars to summer weedline fishing and winter ice fishing hotspots. The lake features multiple public boat launches, an accessible fishing pier at Lake Wissota State Park, and plenty of shoreline access along Highway X for bank fishing enthusiasts. Whether you're targeting muskies or walleyes, Lake Wissota's varied structure provides rewarding fishing experiences for anglers of all skill levels.

Fishing boats of all sizes navigate the shorelines, sandbars, and bays of the Big Lake, but most activity takes place on the Little Lake and Moon Bay, as well as upstream on Paint Creek, Stillson Creek, the Yellow River, and the Chippewa River. All but the largest fishing boats can cross under the railroad bridge separating the Big Lake from the Little Lake. Fishing maps are available on-line, but the exact spots for landing bluegills, crappies, bass, walleye, and musky aren’t publicized. You might also spot sturgeon jumping just for the fun of it.
