Clean Boats, Clean Waters
Since the Spring of 2006 our association has participated in the WI DNR Clean Boats, Clean Waters program inspecting boats entering Lake Wissota. Through a partnership with Beaver Creek Reserve and the aquatic invasive species regional coordinator, inspectors are trained to educate boaters on how and where invasive species are most likely to hitch a ride into water bodies. Inspectors perform boat and trailer checks for invasive species, distribute informational brochures and collect and report any new water body infestations at the Lafayette Brick boat landing. The Chippewa Rod & Gun Club also has a CBCW inspector at their boat landing. All Lake Wissota boat landings have signage that informs boaters of the need to inspect their boats for aquatic invasive species. This program depends upon the continuing support of the entire Lake Wissota Community to fight the spread of invasive species. The CBCW program is partially funded by a WI DNR grant.
